Ovais Ghafur is an Executive Director in Deloitte’s Corporate Finance and M&A Advisory group and the Manufacturing Leader for Deloitte’s Financial Advisory Group. He has advised on over 55 mid-market M&A transactions, primarily in the manufacturing industry, spanning across multiple sectors including Automotive (parts manufacturing, MRO providers and dealerships), Aerospace & Defense (precision and composites parts manufacturing and MRO operations), Chemicals (equipment and products manufacturing), Plastics (technology licensing, equipment and products manufacturing), Tooling and Automation, Building Products, Oil and Gas Equipment, and General Manufacturing.
Prior to joining Deloitte, he practiced corporate finance and investment banking with PriceWaterhouse Securities and two boutique M&A advisory firms in Toronto. Ovais also has experience in direct private equity investing as a Principal with the Alberta Investment Management Corporation’s Private Equity Group and Corporate Development experience as the Vice President of Corporate Development and Growth Strategy at CAASCO.
In addition, he also has management consulting experience in strategy, business process improvement and ERP implementations gained at PwC Consulting, hands-on process engineering experience in chemical and plastics engineering at Dow Chemical and PolyDynamics Inc., a plastics engineering consulting that he co-founded.
Ovais holds a MBA from McMaster University and is a Corporate Finance charter holder. He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) and a Master of Engineering (Plastics) from McMaster University and is a Professional Engineer licensed in Ontario.
Ovais is a passionate topiary gardener and a dedicated volunteer with the Tetra Society of North America where he designs and manufactures products for people with extreme disabilities.
